You know, it could simply be that it’s the word I picked for myself this year (that one word or value I want to bring into everything I do in my business) but I’m noticing a real need for an injection of courage in leadership right now.
I’m seeing businesses facing some serious financial hurdles. Economic instability in their customer base, shrinking government funding, boards and parent companies tightening their grip and it’s all creating pressure. For some, this is a lingering pandemic hangover. For others, it’s a sudden blow they didn’t see coming. Either way, this shift is presenting a major inflection point for businesses and it requires some attention right now.
As with all inflections in business, this is where courage comes in.
Courage to review and re-shape the strategy.
Courage to make structural changes including tough calls on who’s in the right seat for what’s ahead.
Courage to challenge your team pushing outside their silos to truly lead together, motivate their people, and hold each other accountable.
If you’re reading this and that little voice inside is whispering, “Yep, this applies to me…” keep reading!
If you catch yourself saying:
“I know I need to make changes to the team, but it’s going to be painful…”
“I know we need to come together as a team, but we’ll have to wait until next financial year…”
Or “I’m not sure I can pull this off or have the energy for it..”
Pause, and just for a moment imagine what you might do if you just had that injection of courage. What courageous conversations would you have? What changes would you make?
What first step can you take? What support would you lock in?
We all get wobbly even just for a moment, me included – just ask my coach. That moment of hesitation? It’s important data. DON’T DISMISS IT.It’s telling you that you’re on to something important.
Don’t miss the opportunity to respond and perhaps even maximise the opportunity the inflection presents.
